My name is Nanci Friedland and over the last 30 years have made a wonderful, rewarding career out of breeding and judging dogs through the American Kennel Club. I take immense pride in what I do as being a breeder-judge is no easy task. Currently, I am for hire and will walk you through a brief overview of my credentials.

I knew I wanted to work with dogs as a young girl but also knew I had no desire to become a veterinarian. I feel many people turn toward this profession when they realize their passion for animals. This is not a bad thing, it’s fantastic but it’s important to consider all the avenues. When I was old enough I began volunteering at a local animal rescue in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I still reside. The experience gave me so much joy. Being able to work with all sorts of different animal personalities really helps you to see how human they are. From there, after I finished school, I worked part time as a receptionist for an animal hospital and in my off time began raising and breeding my first stud and dam. I chose one of America’s favorite family companions, the Labrador Retriever. I chose this breed because of their incredible intelligence, beauty and easy training ability. From Sallie and Jax, I was able to produce five litters surprisingly without any incidents. Out of the five litters, four went on to be future champions.

The American Kennel club has strict rules for becoming a breeder-judge and I knew I’d have to eventually pass their 12-5-4 test if I ever wanted to work for them. This test means that one must have 12 years experience with breeding the breed they want to judge, at least five litters and four champions. Throughout all of this time, I worked on other assignments provided by the AKC, as  I needed six completed before I could apply.

The breeds I work with are:

  • Labrador Retrievers
  • Golden Retrievers
  • Curly Coated Retrievers
  • Flat Coated Retrievers

I wanted to create a site filled with as much information as I could lend on the subject of breeding, showing and judging dogs. It’s a hard career to make it in because the stakes are high and the competition is tough. My extensive history working, not only in animal care and breeding, sets me apart from the rest. If you’re needing a thorough but relaxed judge to look over any of the breeds listed above, I encourage you to go to my About page. There, you’ll have access to my personal email and learn a little more about who I am and what I have to offer.
